Captain's License Renewal Course
The Captain’s license is good for a period of 5 years and needs to be renewed then. At that time you will need either 360 days of sea time during the last five years, or take a renewal course, or take a very difficult open book test from the Coast Guard. US Maritime Academy Chicago offers a renewal course every year for those who don't accumulate enough sea time. It is an 8-hour course with open book tests at the end. The class is certified by the Coast Guard and the certificate of completion is good in lieu of sea time.
